CETYL PYRIDINIUM BROMIDE

Ionic and cationic N-hexadecylpyridinium are both present in the pyridinium salt cetylpyridinium bromide. It serves as a surfactant and a pharmacological inhibitor for antiseptics. It is a salt that contains both pyridinium and bromide. A quaternary ammonium having broad-spectrum antimicrobial qualities, cetylpyridinium bromide is used in medicine. Cetylpyridinium chloride, the salt version of the compound has an antibacterial effect, acts as a shield against tooth plaque, and lessens gingivitis.
